Walking

During this trip, we are going to do a lot of walking! To give you some perspective, I walked 7.8 miles (about 20,000 steps) on day 2 and 11 miles (about 28,000 steps) on day 3. The time to start preparing for this is now! Make time to walk during these waning summer days and get a plan in place to keep walking during the Winter. Set incremental goals with your parent(s)/student(s) or friend(s) and hold each other accountable. Maybe shoot for 10,000 steps a day by the middle of October, then increase by 2,000 every few weeks until we leave? You could also set distance goals, whatever makes sense to you.

If you are a parent going, take your student on walks. This could be time spent bonding or planning out what you want to do when we get to DC. Plus, some of us need to practice too! However you choose to pursue this, make sure you are also drinking plenty of water!
