Can your student use street signs or landmarks to get around? Can they do this without their phones? This is a skill they might want to hone before leaving for DC. Being able to move around in a large city is a very useful life skill.

You can give your student some practice by going on walks and following street signs. If you're like me, and you hate the cold, you could give your student a list of grocery items and tell them to meet you somewhere in the store at a set time. Anything to get them using some time management, and mental mapping skills will help.
